Cake, Cards and Celebrations

Time seems to go so much faster than when I was younger. Is this because when we are older we have more responsibilities that are mind is so taken up we just do not see the time go by. This evening as I walked Smudge it seemed like Hallowe'en already.

Its been a relaxing week resting my ankle and doing a little less work than usual. I have really enjoyed Downton Abbey thanks to Carolyn for lending me her box set. I don't watch tv as such but I know I wouldn't have enjoyed watching it week by week, this way is ideal. Looking forward to seeing Anna Karenina at the cinema tomorrow.

Back to art class tomorrow too, so enjoyed last week's class just love drawing clutter. i think I should have been born in the Victorian era.

September is a busy month for birthdays so I had another outing to the Merchant where Carolyn and I had a joint birthday celebration together over afternoon tea. It is so nice to eat out knowing food intolerances are well considered.

Still cardmaking during our coffee and craft sessions to get all my Christmas cards completed so I can then get back to scrapping.

Week's Review

Smudge summing up the week

Despite a sprained ankle slowing me up there was still plenty to do. Christmas is getting closer, birthdays and household chores. Still lots of time to play though.

a little time out from scrapbooking
Wendy's cards

My ankle still isnt ready for a decent walk which is very frustrating as I am sure that last batch of blackberries have ripened!!!!
It was lovely to be back with the Thursday girls and Deirdre gave us a really warm welcome which was probably a shock to the new ladies!!!
I just love drawing clutter

Minnie and Smudge have some fun together this time not over lunch!!!!

We also thoroughly enjoyed our time in Newcastle with the Cumming's and as we were leaving we were amazed at the meteor/ space  junk which shot across the sky breaking up directly above our heads. It seemed so close and we were so taken back we didn't get a chance to capture it.

Birthday celebration

I sprained my ankle on friday which considering my birthday today was probably just a sign of wear!!!..
day 1

day2

J's swan profiteroles
It has been a struggle with it and I just do not have the patience for it to return to normal. However because of it I opted to stay in bed until late afternoon before I had to get ready to go out for my birthday meal. Hopefully that will be enough to get me through work tomorrow.
meal at the Merchant

We went to The Merchant for the first time and throughly enjoyed it. They took all my dietary requirements into consideration without detracting from the meal.

It was such a lovely environment and I am sure we will be back for any other special occasion. Chips arrived with J's steak, to me that would have been a disappointment but for him it made his night!!!

I had scallops to start and they were cooked perfectly and then I had chicken with tarragon and wild mushrooms. Everything was cooked just as we liked and the service was excellent.

Now back home to put my foot up again

Contentment

View from my kitchen window
What is contentment? Well you only have to look out my window to see how easy it is to be content. However we are always searching and wanting more.

Hebrews 13:5 Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have ; for He Himself has said, "I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,".

2 Corinthians 12:10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ's sake ; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

Yesterday I went blackberry picking with Julie, Minnie and Smudge in Killynether Wood but still very few blackberries and I gained a sprained ankle in the process.

No walking for a while as I need to rest my foot between my working shifts. I managed the sewing machine with my other foot though.

Christmas in September.......

Well it may not be Christmas yet but it won't be long so I have to get the Christmas cards made especially those for early postage abroad. The art of sending Christmas cards is dying and to be honest I do feel with the cost of postage it is a waste to send the routine pre packed box cards just for the sake of it to folk we meet every day. However a hand made card can be considered a gift and a very nice way to wish a friend a Merry Christmas whom you do not see very often.

It wasn't a coffee and craft session last night but specifically for Christmas card making something we will continue in the coffee + craft sessions.

I had a lovely morning making Cards with the ladies from Scrabo toddler's group. It is so satisfying when someone says "I can't", "I am not crafty", "I am not arty" only to produce a lovely card in less than 30 mins. Their squeezy cards were amazing.

A trip to the library to stock up on some audio books for all those hours I spend in my car. The library hours have been cut recently and it would be sad if this continues. Books are so expensive now and I feel many people are unaware what is available for free. When you become a member ,which is free, you can take out and return any book to any library. It is also possible to reserve books online which are brought to your local library for you for just 50p.

A little sale gift for me

Many things to be thankful for....blessed be your name

Ballyhalbert 10th Sept
We all have many things to be thankful for but how thankful are we and do we ever really reflect on our blessings? Having just studied Genesis and particularly looking at Abraham I am encouraged by the faith of this very ordinary man. He wasn't perfect, he was just like us. However God chose him, made a covenant with him that would go on to bless his descendents. This wasn't just a story way back in history but we are those descendents and those blessings are ours for the taking.

When I think back on the last 44yrs the blessings I have received are abundant. However those blessings are more pronounced after troubles and trials. The unexpected blessings have came when I haven't put myself first.

In the Psalms we are told how we are to praise God even at times when we feel nothing is going our way. We need to remember that our time and God's is not the same. The time we spend on this earth is so short compared to eternity so whatever happens here, now on reflection, will seem so insignificant in the future

We all question God whether we have a faith or not but really we have no right as he is aware of the big picture. There are reasons he doesn't make us aware of everything at once. We are only human and incapable of knowing everything and in his wisdom he makes us aware of things as and when we can deal with them. In the same way we instruct our children. Job continually praised God through severe trial and God blessed him.

1Thessalonians 5:16-18

Rejoice always pray without ceasing in everything give thanks ; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

Abraham made many mistakes but each time God turned these around, likewise with us. However if we are not in a close relationship with him he will allow us to choose our own path and that is when things really can go wrong for us. I have experienced many things others may not but these experiences can be turned around to help others. We can all learn from poverty, abuse, addictions, disease, disability, harrassment, loneliness, depression etc. We can also with God's help turn these elements back to praise and through the experience have a better understanding of others who are yet to get through them. There is so much to be thankful for.

Blessed Be Your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name

Blessed Be Your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed Be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's 'all as it should be'
Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name

Blackberry picking

Last summer we had taken our holidays later hence I got a small blackberry crop. This year we went away a week earlier but due to the weather the blackberries are slow to ripen, in fact many brambles are just flowering.

Today Smudge and I went to Killynether Wood and despite few to pick it was a beautiful day to walk.

I really didn't want to be indoors so after a quick lunch and a nap for Smudge we then met up with Julie and Minnie for a walk at Islandview. The dogs had a ball which meant straight for the shower afterward.

This week I got back into my crafts and due to all the September birthdays back to card making.

Squeeze card
Art class on thursday where we did watercolour without drawing in pencil first, I always spend time cleaning my paint tray before I start but when I looked at Julie's I thought there really isn't the need!!!!
